Our History

The Old Well Road House, as it was previously known when purchased by David and Christine Lamyman in the late 1970’s had seen better days. The construction of the motorway saw its latest occupiers, Little Chef move to the newer services just down the road at Junction 27 of the M5 leaving behind its dilapidated former building.

Prior to this it had been a much loved lido for the local population to enjoy from miles around, some of whom still return to see if the pool is still here – which it still is.

David and Christine saw opportunity where others did not on the now almost deserted A38 with grass growing in between the carriageways; for a garage selling petrol, classic cars and the Tearooms which is still an integral part of the business today. Whilst it continued to operate as a garage forecourt for a while, following a suggestion by one of our much loved sales reps that they should try selling plants, it soon became apparent that its new direction would be a Garden Centre and tearooms.

The business has had much investment since its early days and is now a second generation family business run by its founders together with their son Rob and large dedicated team.
