National Open Garden Scheme
The National Garden Scheme gives visitors unique access to over 3,500 exceptional private gardens in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands whilst raising impressive amounts of money for nursing and health charities through admissions, teas and cake.
Thanks to the generosity of garden owners, volunteers and visitors the scheme has donated over £74 million to nursing and health charities, and in 2024 made an annual donation of over £3.5 million. Core beneficiaries include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK and The Queen’s Nursing Institute.
This terrific scheme doesn’t just open beautiful gardens for charity – they are passionate about the physical and mental health benefits of gardens too. They also support charities doing amazing work within the gardening and health sectors, with grant bursaries available to help community gardening projects.
Devon Dig & Donate – A growing project created by the community, for the community.
Devon Dig and Donate CIC is a new community project based at Heathfield Farm in Broadclyst near Exeter, with a mission to provide fresh produce to donate to food banks and community organisations supporting vulnerable people and those experiencing food poverty within the Exeter and surrounding local community areas.
Their aim is not just to provide produce for families and individuals, but to equip and empower people with the skills needed to be able to grow, harvest and use fresh produce themselves. The team are always looking for great contacts, volunteers and donations.
The Old Well is pleased to support this local project annually through seed and garden tool donations.
